About this plant

Nepenthes x ventrata is the easiest tropical pitcher plant to grow at home, and the one most growers start with. It pitchers readily indoors, tolerates ordinary household humidity, and forgives the mistakes that kill fussier Nepenthes.

CHOOSE YOUR SIZE

3-in Starter Plant - a rooted, established young plant. Typical leaf span 4 to 7 inches at shipping.

4-in Mature Plant - a fuller, further-developed plant, ready to hang. Typical leaf span 4 to 18 inches at shipping.

ABOUT THIS PLANT

Ventrata is a cross of Nepenthes ventricosa and Nepenthes alata. From ventricosa it takes temperature and humidity tolerance, and from alata it takes vigor and steady pitcher production. The result is a plant that keeps making its hanging monkey cups on a windowsill, in a bright bathroom, or in a hanging basket, without a terrarium or a humidifier.

Pitchers form at the leaf tips on slim tendrils and range from green to red-flecked depending on light. As the plant climbs it produces them continuously rather than in occasional flushes.

WHAT YOU WILL RECEIVE

One live Nepenthes x ventrata in the size selected, rooted and actively growing in long-fiber sphagnum moss and perlite, shipped in its nursery pot.

You will receive a plant representative of current stock, not the exact plant photographed. Pitcher count, pitcher size, leaf shape, and coloration vary between individual plants and change as the plant grows.

CARE

Light: bright indirect light, or a few hours of gentle direct sun. More light means redder pitchers.

Water: distilled, rain, or reverse-osmosis water only. Minerals in tap water build up and damage the roots.

Medium: keep it consistently moist and never let it dry out completely. Do not let it sit in standing water, and do not repot into standard potting soil.

Humidity: normal room humidity is fine once established. A little extra while it settles in helps it pitcher sooner.

Feeding: none needed. Do not use regular houseplant fertilizer.

SHIPPING AND ARRIVAL

Ships to the lower 48 United States only. Extreme heat or cold may delay shipping to protect the plant.

Plants are packed to protect the pitchers and root ball in transit. Please open the package promptly and put the plant back into bright light.

Some travel stress is normal. Dried or dropped pitchers do not mean the plant is unhealthy. The leaves are what matter, and new pitchers form once it settles in.

Message me before ordering if you need the plant by a specific date or want to know what is currently in stock. If there is a serious issue when your plant arrives, please message me with clear photos of the plant and packaging so I can help.
