Carnivorous Plant Soil & Supplies
Carnivorous plants need low-nutrient media chosen for their root environment—not ordinary fertilized potting soil. This collection contains two focused mixes so you can match the substrate to the plant instead of using one recipe for everything.
Which carnivorous plant soil should you choose?
| Plant | Recommended mix | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Nepenthes / tropical pitcher plants | Long-fiber sphagnum + perlite Nepenthes mix | Stays moist while preserving air around fine tropical pitcher-plant roots. |
| Venus flytraps, Sarracenia, and many common bog sundews | Peat + perlite bog mix | Provides the acidic, low-fertility, consistently moist conditions these bog plants prefer. |
Use rainwater, distilled water, or reverse-osmosis water with either mix. Avoid garden soil, compost, fertilizer-enriched peat or perlite, and household softened water.
