About this plant
A nutrient-poor bog mix made for Venus flytraps, Sarracenia, and many bog-growing sundews.
This blend uses sphagnum peat moss and perlite to hold moisture while keeping the root zone airy. It contains no added fertilizer or regular potting soil.
BEST FOR
- Venus flytraps (Dionaea muscipula)
- Sarracenia / North American pitcher plants
- Many Drosera / sundews
- Other bog-growing carnivorous plants with similar media needs
THE MIX
- Sphagnum peat moss
- Perlite
- No added fertilizer
- No compost
- No regular potting soil
The peat helps retain the constant moisture bog carnivores prefer, while perlite adds air space and helps keep the mix from becoming overly compacted.
IMPORTANT
This mix is intended for bog-growing carnivorous plants. It is not the mix I use for Nepenthes / tropical pitcher plants, which prefer a more open long-fiber sphagnum-based mix.
HOW TO USE
- Place the amount you need in a clean container.
- Wet thoroughly with distilled, reverse-osmosis, or rainwater.
- Mix until the peat is evenly hydrated.
- Pot the plant without packing the mix hard around the roots.
- Keep the medium consistently moist according to the needs of the species you are growing.
WATER
Use distilled water, reverse-osmosis water, or rainwater. Avoid high-mineral tap water.
AVAILABLE SIZES
- 1 Quart - Good for a small repotting job or several starter plants.
- 2 Quarts - Good for several plants or medium containers.
- 1 Gallon / 4 Quarts - Best for larger collections, bog pots, or keeping extra mix on hand.
Hand mixed and packaged by Zac's Attack Plants.
WHICH CARNIVOROUS PLANT MIX DO I NEED?
This mix is for Venus flytraps, Sarracenia / North American pitcher plants, and many common bog sundews. If you grow Nepenthes / tropical pitcher plants such as Miranda, St. Gaya, or Ventrata, use my Nepenthes Potting Mix instead.
